ICE SKATING AND FISHING
I was just hearing
people telling stories about ice fishing and skating that happens during winter
seasons in most of European countries not knowing that one day I will be the
one playing these games. When people talk about these two games, you might
think that it’s as simple as entering a bus, but you realize that it requires a
lot of concertation, attention and more practice when it’s your first time to
try it.
Its very rare to
find these games in the countries which doesn’t experience snow, therefore during
my stay in Norway, I was luck enough to see when its snowing during winter season.
What a mazing moment of seeing like a clean white gold coming down from heaven but
reaching on the ground it’s when you realize that it’s a whitish substance that
melts immediately when you touch it.
It doesn’t stop on
melting, but it also gives you a lot of work to do most especially when it’s
your first time to experience it in your life due the matter of the fact that
when it melts it turns into ice and makes road very slippery, so you could not
resist walking on your two legs, therefore the only option is to start crawling
like a baby so that you can reach your final destination. Not only that but
even drivers are obligated to change their vehicle tyres with rubber so that it
should be easy for them to stop when they apply breaks.
Snow season has no
mercy to anyone, because it even calls the government to bring out it’s big
lorries to clear it away from the roads by putting it at the side of the roads,
‘’ Hiiiiiiii’’ unbelievable but snow makes you to forget you culture buy putting
on woolen pant, wearing more than 6 clothes at ago in order to get warmth also
it’s advisable to cover your toes and ears for safety in case temperatures fall
below 5 degrees. Sometimes because of coldness you feel like you are preserved for
another day.
It doesn’t stop on
affecting people, vehicles, but it also has impact on time change according to
the location interestingly the nights get longer that day.
However, the coldness
and icy weather, fun doesn’t stop. In that it’s the beginning of other fun like
ice skating, ice fishing, downhill country skiing, winter hikes, sledding, snow
ball fights, building snow man, all these activities control boredom during
this season.
So, I was able to
participate in ice skating and ice fishing. Reaching on the skating ground,
there was people of different age but the most thing that gave me strength and
courage to participate was to see young children skating at a high speed and I thought
that it will be easy like crossing a zebra crossing. But I was first challenged
by even not using the skating shoes because even the first step I took it was due
to a collective support from my friends. The matter turns worse after reaching
on the skating ground, to be realistic I couldn’t manage to resist standing on
my feet for one minute. Sincerely it was very annoying to see young children
passing over me at high speed when I cannot even make three steps of movement. The
struggle continued the time I went down on the ground, because of the sharp
shoes they use during skating, they couldn’t support me to stand since there
are very slippery. It was fun, but I decided to stop now and then to skate
because I was tired of falling after a single minute.
Ice fishing is a
bit different from skating because it requires to determine the thickness of
the ice on water, as we have seen in the above, when snow melts it turns into ice,
so it makes a thick and heavy layer on the water. The more thickness of ice on
water the safer to carry out ice fishing. This is done by making a big hole through
the ice into the wate, after you stage a hook on a long strong thread, tie it
somewhere for couple of hours for the fish to be trapped. Because during winter
season, its very cold therefore fish live at the bottom of the ocean which makes
it difficult for the fish to be trapped easily.
Also, if the
thickness of the ice is big, you can do ice skating on the ocean.
It was really my
great pleasure to engage in these two activities.
